The ADHD Focus Block (45 minutes of real work)

Most lost focus time goes on choosing what to do and setting up. This block scripts both, so the deep work starts within three minutes of sitting down.

The routine

  1. 1
0-2 minName one task out loud

One task, one sentence, no list.

  2. 2
2-4 minClear the desk and phone

Phone in another room, tabs closed, water in reach.

  3. 3
    4-5 minSet a visible timer

40 minutes, where you can see it counting down.

  4. 4
    5-40 minWork, badly if needed

Rough beats perfect. Note distractions on paper instead of chasing them.

  5. 5
40-45 minHard stop and note the next move

Write the first sentence of next time. Re-entry is the hard part.

FAQ

What if 40 minutes is too long?

Use 10. A block you start beats a block you admire.

What about interruptions?

Write them on paper and continue. Capturing is enough to quiet the loop.

How many blocks a day?

Two good blocks is a strong ADHD day. Three is exceptional.
