How do you deal with ADHD paralysis at work?
At work, the fastest fix is to make the next step externally visible: write the single smallest action on paper, set a 10-minute timer, and reduce the audience in your head. Most workplace freezes come from vague deliverables and fear of visible failure, not from difficulty of the work.
Rewrite the deliverable as an action
'Prepare the client update' freezes; 'open last month's deck and change the date' does not. Managers hand out outcomes, but your brain needs verbs. Do the translation yourself, in writing, before you attempt the work.
Use the office as a body double
Working alongside someone — in person or on a silent call — reliably breaks freeze, because the low-level social presence supplies the external structure your executive system isn't producing. Booking a 30-minute co-working slot is often more effective than any app.
What to tell your manager
You rarely need to disclose a diagnosis. Asking for the concrete accommodation works better: written briefs instead of verbal ones, one priority at a time, and a named first step on every task. All three are reasonable requests, and all three reduce freezes.
