what to do when motivation never arrives
Motivation is a result of starting, not a requirement for it. Here's how to get the first two minutes without it.
stop waiting for readiness
The feeling you're waiting for usually arrives about ninety seconds after you begin. Waiting for it beforehand is waiting for the dessert before the meal.
four cold starts that work
Pick whichever costs you the least right now.
- the bad version: do it deliberately badly, then fix it
- the countdown: five, four, three, two, one, physically move
- the witness: message someone "starting now, back in 10"
- the doorway: change rooms, then start within thirty seconds of sitting
protect the first two minutes
Phone face down, one tab, one visible step. Everything you can see is a competing decision, and every competing decision is a chance to freeze again.
the shame loop is the real cost
Missed days aren't failure data, they're weather. Restart tomorrow with the smallest possible step rather than trying to make up ground — the catch-up plan is what breaks the streak for good.
